Health insurance - Helsana - Any experience?

Hi all,

I live in Switzerland since many years and I got an offer from the Helsana insurance with is better than my actual health insurance.

I dont know if I should change to a new insurance company. Does anybody have any experience with the Helsana?

You do know you cannot cancel your present insurance until 12.12.2015 don't you?

I have always been with Visana, but a little search reveals members opinions,

I was with helsana but when they kept pushing the costs up for the basic insurance I cancelled and saved over 50chf a month.

KVG (Basic insurance) benefits are set and equal with every provider. So maybe just change your basic insurance, which probably will save you money. Maybe keep your additional insurances with your current provider, especially if you have/had illnesses which could be excluded at the new insurer

Hi my family and I signed up with Helsana about a year ago. One family member will require hospitalization for a routine procedure and Helsana have been dragging their feet and not issuing a guarantee of payment.. When I discussed Helsana with a former colleague she said that her family went through that for 2 years and Helsana never reimbursed actually ever did reimburse for anything....getting worried now....thinking maybe we should change insurance company. Any other views on Helsana or alternative insurers?? Thanks

Have you asked them why directly?

We have insurance with Helsana (semi private) and have never had problems with reimbursements.

Criteria could be that it's a doctor not on their approved list or in a hospital they don't list, for example. It's not likely to be the procedure, especially if it is routine.

What level of insurance do you have? Basic, semi private or private, for example?

Have you hit your limit on your excess yet? And you know you have to pay 10% of the balance, too, right?

Hi and thanks. We have Semi-private. Our doctor sent a medical report and they said it was not sufficient and then they made us cancel the procedure date until they can conclude their investigation. They have since asked for the contact info of all our doctors since 2012 --reason being: we are "new clients". They now have the contact info of doctors spanning several countries (we're nomadic expats) and some years back but they have not bothered to contact them. Curious.

They will be looking if it was an excisting illness, in the hope they can retrospecively exclude it from the cover. Which means they will end up only have to reimburse under the KVG. Hope you get it sorted soon

Thanks for your message. I understood that they are trying to find out if it was an existing condition but the problem is that we are cooperating and providing whatever info they ask for but they are still stalling and dragging their feet. We don't mind the requests for info --that is what they have to do but it is the inaction after that worries....
