Yep itís an add on to the Personal Liability Insurance. I only noticed it when I started scouting around for a new insurance provider after Questor.

Anyway you can just go on their online premium calculator and check it out for yourself or call your contact at Axa.

Re: car hire insurance

And regarding AXA's policy, if it's the one I can find it has a limit of CHF 3,000. It is therefore not suitable as an alternative for a CDW policy in the USA.

Re: car hire insurance

Yes its only to cover the deductible..

It says:

Rental vehicles and carsharing vehicles normally have full accidental damage insurance, but high deductibles (several thousand francs).
Your deductibles are reduced with this supplement, and you can dispense with the corresponding expensive supplementary coverage of the respective providers. Additionally, liability insurance, which is often low in other countries, is increased to CHF 5 million.
The insurance covers drivers/pilots of third-party motor vehicles, watercraft and aircraft that:
are rented or used under a carsharing agreement
are made available by the employer for private use
are made available by a club or association. The driver/pilot must be a member of the club or association.
Who is this coverage suitable for?
This coverage replaces the supplementary coverage, which is normally very expensive, from carsharing and rental vehicle providers to reduce the deductible amount. It is suitable for anyone who regularly hires vehicles in Switzerland or abroad, uses carsharing, or is a member of a rowing or sailing club.
CHF 50.- discount
If you select this coverage, you will receive a one-time discount of CHF 50 (will be deducted from the bill).

Finally, and then I'll shut up, you mentioned CDW but not third party liability, which is different. Don't rent in the US unless you are sure you're covered for third party liability. As is the case for CDW, the European websites of most major rental companies and brokers often include liability, the US sites quite likely not.

Yes it works fine, but its as high as the rent is... so the price doubles...

If you're after the full CDW, and not just the excess, you could try www.rentalcover.com . They're pretty flexible, however, they are not at all cheap.

WorldwideInsure are much cheaper and have a Deluxe policy that does appear, to my reading, to cover the full CDW- it covers GBP 50,000 and the definition of Excess in the policy wording doesn't actually state that an insurance policy needs to be in place. But you might want to check it out with them. Also, you might run into issues with the maximum rental duration, which is 60 days.

Frankly though, if you book US car hire through the European websites of most of the major rental companies or brokers, they will quote with CDW included (maybe with an excess), and in my experience that usually works out cheaper than a separate insurance policy (assuming we're talking about full CDW, not excess reimbursement).
You are 100% right, I need CDW, LDW, LIS... and it exists as a package in the US ..

BUT as a Swiss resident I can not book it... and since you now also are Swiss residents, I thought you might have solutions...

The rental car comp solution I know...

Here yesterdays answer from AXA:

Dear Madam,

Thank you for your e-mail.

Unfortunately we (AXA Switzerland) do not offer any specific insurance for rental cars.

You can also reach us toll-free at 0800 809 809 at any time.
Thank you for placing your trust in AXA.
