Insuring a new mobile phone.

My mobile phone screen broke and the cost of getting it fixed here, considering that its almost 2 years old, makes it more logical to just buy a new one. So i was wondering about insurance so i dont have to do all this again...i simply cant afford massive sums of money like this every so often when ive decided to be clumbsy or air headed.

My question; does anyone know any decent ways to insure my phone out here? Im here indefinately for another 4 months minimum.

Which conjurs another question for me; if i pulled out a phone contract, for example...at 30CHF a month with or without a phone...and baring in mind that most contracts are now at a minimum of 12 or 24 months...if and when i left in 4 months time would i have to pay off the rest of the phone and yearly bill?

Thank you so much for your replies!
Amy

Re: Insuring a new mobile phone.

Buy a cheap phone for CHF 100 or so, plenty of them out there.

A (very) quick look on the interweb suggests that you'll be looking at significantly upward of 100 chf a year, if you can find it here, so I can't really imagine that it would be worthwhile. How often do you think you'll need to claim?

Re: Insuring a new mobile phone.

I'm with Sunrise on an abo. that can be cancelled or changed at any time with no penalty and have breakage insurance included included with the contract.

Re: Insuring a new mobile phone.

My household insurance with Zurich Relax replaced an iPad screen - twice! To the full amount...

There is a similar insurance policy offered by Orange/Salt but I seem to remember other members saying that the terms were too narrow with too many exclusions, making it almost worthless.

P.S the Interdiscount policy only applies to phones purchased from them

If you have a contracted minimum period then yes, you'll have to pay an exit fee or continue paying. I can't say what the exit fees are, but EF posts passim suggest they're as much as the payments would be.

There are more flexible contracts out there. If you may not be here for the length of a 1 or 2 year contract, it's worth looking into that or a PAYG plan.
