Does household insurance cover moth damage to clothes?

I have pulled out 4 men's suits (2 almost new) form their hangers only to find they have been eaten but insects - probably clothes moths and their larvae.

I have read some good posts here about how to control them (that horse has bolted) but any idea if these are claimable with insurance?

Almost certainly not, if you bought the suits on a credit card recently they might be covered. Your the guy that spends 75k on a credit card

That may covered by the moths' 3rd party liability insurance. You checked that the moths had valid insurance before you let them house in the wardrobe?

As a general rule whatever you try to claim from insurance companies, their first response to state you are not covered. But I have found if you are persistent they discover you are actually covered...

I`m so happy that moth eaten suits are not covered by household insurance!

When we were planning to get married, my O/H said he will just use his previous wedding suit - it still fits him ........(only about 27 years out of date ...)

He pulled it out of the cupboard, took off its protective plastic cover, and it was FULL of mothholes! Yaaaaaaaaaaaay I was SO happy.

I guess he will have learned something from this experience, and protected the current one with camphor or something similar, just in case he might need to use it again.

This gave him the excuse, and the opportunity. for him to invest in a new leather jacket and new denims! Always useful .... afterwards.
Gave me the excuse to have a Country & Western wedding theme!

Re: Does household insurance cover moth damage to clothes?

I would consider cancelling your current insurance policy, only problem is they generally need 3 moths notice in writing...
