| | Must supplementary health insurance be applied for before January?
I have been living in Switzerland for 2 1/2 years and have never had supplementary health insurance. I am considering it now and so was wondering if I need to apply before January or can I do it in the new year like in February or March?
Thanks so much.

No they'll always happily sell you more and pro-rata the premium.
It's only cancellation that has to be sent registered three months in advance written in your own blood.

So, did this turn out to be true? Were you able to do this?
Someone in my office wants to go from basic with 2500 franchise and upgrade it and has just told me she's been advised she can't make ANY changes to her policy at all except on the particular dates. That sounds to me like the cancellation rules.
So, just wondering how you made out with this. I too thought should be no problem to pay more money anytime!

I have changed my basic insurance plan... from Telmed to Hausartz mid-year, with no problem. You can add on supplementary insurance at any time, with any company, as this doesn't affect your basic insurance which stays the same.

That of course only once they have ascertained your state of health and that you have no pre-existing conditions that will require fixing sooner or later.

Ah, thanks.
Indeed, that's what she wants to do.
She wants to reduce the franchise down to the smallest and possibly add supplementary, but it's the franchise reduction she's primarily after bringing down and is worried she now has to wait a whole year to do it.

She can change her plan to a more expensive one i.e. Standard Plan if on Hausartz and add supplementary if accepted for it.... but franchise can't be changed mid-contract.

Thanks all for the replies.
I've now realized what I'm asking is not, adding supplementary but actually "is it possible to reduce the franchise, mid-term"?
I'll post a new thread on it to see if anyone else has done it (can't find it in search)

You can take out supplementary cover at any time subject to their agreement after filling in the health questionnaire.

You need to study your situation, there is no easy answer. Very cheap companies are very slow to pay up, or answer the phone! https://en.comparis.ch/krankenkassen/default.aspx |
