Liability insurance

Hi
Quick one. My girlfriend lost her iPad while on holiday. Does the Swiss personal liability and household insurance cover this loss?
Thanks

Liability insurance, household insurance possibly, you need to read what is covered & then you will know.

Re: Liability insurance

It all depends on the written policy and Swiss insurance law. She could make a claim against her household insurance, and maybe win some money back. I hope she made a statement about the loss of her iPad to the local police and hopefully she still has the original receipt.

I am quite sure that neither liablity nor household insurance cover this. Liability insurance kicks in when you break somebodies else's ipad and househould insurance is when somebody breaks into your house and steals your ipad.

You can have add-ons to the household insurance that covers theft outside the house. For e.g., I had unknowingly done that and thus practically all of my losses (except the cancellation of the hotel room booking) was covered when someone stole my wallet and travel stuffs outside the house. Obviously, it depends on whether OP's girlfriend lost the ipad or if someone stole it...

OP, doesn't she have a travel insurance?

Re: Liability insurance

Check with your insurers. I can tell you that theft (with a police report) and breakages are usually covered, but loss often not...

Re: Liability insurance

Certainly the case with the Mobilière. We have a few items which are specifically covered for use away from home- but even that won't cover for loss. It would be a bit too easy to just 'lose' things, when you want a new one, or sell it abroad and then....wouldn't it?
