Swiss health insurance - deductable franchise accounting

Hello everybody,

I had some health bills this year that exceeded my deductable franchise for Swiss health insurance. Now I receive the bill from the health insurance company and they dated it for the new year. Those tricky bastards used bills from August 2015 to bill me for January 2016. With that accounting delay they calculated the deductable amount and franchise expenses for the new year which means that they can pass more cost to me.

So I will call them on Monday and also write an email so I have it in writing. If you had health expenses this year that exceeded your franchise deductable make sure that all 2015 bills are counted for 2015 and not that the health insurance company calculates those for the new year to cheat you out of insurance benefits that they should be paying.

Don't let yourself get Swissed.

January 16 is the future, an bill should be accounted for then the treatment occurred regardless of the date of the bill.

When I have submitted a bill where they might be confusion as to the treatment date I highlight the year on the bill. Just to make it clear.

Mistakes can and do happen. They usually can be easily fixed.

agree but conveniently they charged me for the new year and charged me 100% of that bill, despite me having reached my 2000chf deductable in 2015 and this is for an august 2015 treatment. Just saying mistakes happen but accounting gimmicks are part of financial business and this being a financial products company I thought I'd give people the heads up as I wouldn't be surprised if I am not the only person with this.

that doesn't solve anything. Lowering the deductable would change the situation but it doesn't change the fact that accounting errors took place (coincidence or a sneaky way to screw customers?) and I am charged something I should not. With a lower deductable, let's say 1000 instead of 2000chf the same would be the case, just for 1000chf more.

Reimbursement of treatment bills is done separately. Your Insurance premium for January 2016 should be 100 %.
