Health insurance after university

Hi all,

So I graduated last september and I had an insurance contract until end of 2016 which expired and noone sent me a new one to sign. Into which category do I fall in now? I am unemployed with an L permit. Do I have to apply for a real (expensive) insurance or is there a way I can still get student insurance?

You are kidding, arenīt you?

You are no longer a student so apply for any health insurance you like and expect to pay the normal premium

Why would I be kidding? I am unemployed, I have zero income and I'm looking for a job...

Health insurance is mandatory and it is up to you to get health insurance. Whether you are retired, unemployed or whatever. Only a student health insurance does not work as you are not studying

I assume when you got your L permit after graduating, one of the conditions was that you had enough money to support yourself? That includes paying health insurance.

Re: Health insurance after university

You might want to double-check two things.

1 - Whether there's a clause in your old insurance that says it auto-renews or becomes a regular policy after graduation and

2 - Whether the commune has signed you up for an insurance already. If you don't provide your proof of insurance within a timely manner, the municipality will assign you to an insurance and it might not be one you like or can afford.

I'll check my contract but I don't think there was a clause like that one.

I think I'm not assigned anything yet. As I had a contract until 31.12.2016. I think they'll send me a reminder at the end of this month to find a new insurance.

If you are looking for a job in the same manner you treat your obligation to get an insurance: good luck!

Nobody will send you any reminders to send them your application :-)
