Requirements for Health Insurance

Hello all ,

I am moving on Switerzland in April to work in FL . For a while I am living in Sevelen - I have found an apartment which cost is 1200 CHF per month ( included furniture and running cost). I am EU citizen and I should need some advices regardind health Insurance.

Which is the term for contracting the Health Insurance? I mean - from the 3th month or from the first day in Switerzland?

I appreciate the help of all members

With Kind Regards

Jorge

Not any more. They calculate on a pro rata basis from the day you arrive these days, same for births and departures. It changed in December 2015.

No, it's from the first day you register as being resident. Before that you're nothing but a tourist. Only residents are required to have Swiss health insurance.

Re: Requirements for Health Insurance

Sorry MedeaF, that does not apply if you come to be a resident here- and you have to register within 8 days (take a day or two, depending on Commune).

Thanks BM, was not aware of the new pro-rata thing- do you have a link by any chance. We arrived late in the month but had to pay for the whole month.

If someone comes for 3 months as a jobseeker for example they don't need to get health insurance unless they find a job and officially become resident. Until then they are treated as a tourist.

I already posted the link last time you asked about it but I'll see if I can find it again.

I didn't say it did. Tom said it's from the first month you arrive. That could be the last week of February for example - BUT given that you have 14 days to register but must do so before you actually start working the OP could register in March and the insurance will be from that date, not February's arrival date.

"Gainful employment of more than 3 months:

Within 14 days of their arrival and before actually taking up work, nationals of EU-27/EFTA states have to register with the local authorities of the commune in which they are residing and apply for a residence permit. A valid ID or passport and a written confirmation of employment (e.g. the contract of employment containing details of the duration of employment and the number of working hours) have to be presented. A residence permit will be issued depending on the duration of employment: a short-term residence permit (type L permit) for employment of up to 364 days or a residence permit (type B permit) for employment of at least one year or for an unlimited period.

The steps necessary for obtaining a residence permit may be taken after arriving in Switzerland."
