Health insurance on a legitimation card

Hello all,

I am going to be living in Geneva with a "carte de légitimation E," working for a foreign permanent mission. This means that I am not subject to Swiss mandatory health insurance but can opt into the Swiss system by applying to my cantonal authority. My wife has a pre-existing medical condition. I wonder if her application could be rejected since we have to apply to be part of the system, or if she would at least be guaranteed the basic insurance as usual.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Basic insurance will cover pre-existing conditions, they have to.

Thanks, I understand that much. But since a holder of a carte de légitimation E is not automatically subject to the Swiss insurance system but has to request to join on a voluntary basis, my question is whether that application could be rejected due to my wife's pre-existing condition.

Um, really don't know StHilaire. I've been googling to see if I can find something definite, but haven't come up with an answer for you.
