Motorcycle insurance 2 short question.

I will buy a second hand bike.
For plates i need insurance, i saw smile, Elvia. The questions are :

- i would like online, and i don't know if the company send the proposal directly to the plate office the proposal, or is necesary that i print it. In additin is this mandatory, or perhaps in 2 days can change of company???

- one of the option i understand is medical coberture, so if i have an accident and don't have this option i have to pay all the cost of doctors, hospital etc.... The health insurance don't cover it????? In smile appear this Assurer le motocycle avec accident usagers (+150chf in the total)

I try to locking for this information with the searcher but....

Thanks a lot

Re: Motorcycle insurance 2 short question.

It is mandatory to get insurance, not just a proposal.

Generally, you will also need to sign the insurance first, unless you have a long term relationship with the insurance company (as I do).

The accident insurance is for passengers, your normal accident insurance covers you.

Re: Motorcycle insurance 2 short question.

Request a policy (contract) from Elvia. They'll send a certificate of insurance to the mot dep (Service Cantonale des Aufomobiles). Upon receipt of the certificate they'll issue the plate and the grey card (permis de circulation).

Accident insurance is covered by your medical insurer (caisse maladie) and by your employer (accident non professionnel). No need for an extra insurance.

Good luck and have some fun

Re: Motorcycle insurance 2 short question.

I usually just fix mine on the side of the road, though two weeks ago my wife had to pick me up so I could return with a spare tank and fuel system and swap it over.

Well, you seem to want to cover a l l possible vexations (.... are you Swiss? )
However, TCS is a pretty good thing to have (if you drive old cars until their death .... which usually happens in the middle of the road). And a quick look on their website for you told me, they cover bikes too.

Rode a bike for 10 years. And to be honest, bikers have friends

Re: Motorcycle insurance 2 short question.

I have AXA for breakdown/holiday stuff, covers all of our vehicles, among other stuff.

Used it once, paid for everything including a rental car and repatriation of my sidecar, and all costs. Almost needed it a couple of other times, but was able to limp home or otherwise find a solution.

The logistics alone are worth it, as I once had to do it all myself a few years earlier when my bike broke the tranny in Spain and I had no breakdown insurance.
