broken phones haus privatpflicht insurance

Hi guys, I wanted to ask you. I went with my girlfriend for some sports and I managed to break the screen of both our phones . We left them next to the basket and a missed shot.. ended up with a double disaster. Do you know if the insurance either haus or privatpflich can cover any of the phones?

Thank you..

Would you possibly consider that the sought information could be mentioned somewhere on your policy?

well I have the policy in front of me, but it is a bit difficult to guess what it is. Since this was done outside with my fault, I guess it should be covered by the privatpflicht. But does that include damage to other people stuff or also my stuff? the policy does not specify..

Well, when you file your claim, are you completely sure, that it all happened outdoors? Also, are you completely sure that it wasn't your own 2 phones that you broke? Just asking.

well.. it was outdoors and yes.. I do not own 2 phones.. one of them is 5.5 and the other 6 inches.. I do not have pockets for 2 phablets.. Do you happen to know what is the case with the insurances and in which cases they cover me, cause to look at my policy and to doubt what I am writing here.. is not helping me.. quite contrary I would say!

Liability (Haftpflicht) insurance never covers damages you did to your own stuff, and also usually excludes damages to persons in your own household. Household (Hausrat) insurance might cover it, even your own fault, depends on policy and terms.

Glass breakage might be covered but the deductible is probably too high for it to be of any real use. Some home insurance companies offer additional policies for that with a reduced deductible. I have that from Mobiliar. Deductible is 50 Fr and any electronic item in the house is covered (including TVs etc). It's probably too late for the OP, but it generally makes sense to have this as it's much cheaper than insuring every device individually buy buying those insanely expensive insurance policies the retailers offer.
