gutschrift aus dem kantonalen prämienausgleich

Hi,

I'm living in Vaud and I usually deal with my insurer in English....
But they've just decided to send me a letter in German which I don't understand at all.

On the second page is a weird purple payment slip (kind of looks like so) of a negative amount.

The link on the letter leads to here:
https://www.sanitas.com/en/index/ser...ausgleich.html

Which all sounds quite nice.

....But I've never seen anything like this before.
How exactly do I go about cashing such a slip into my account?

AFAIK you do not need to do anything´. They sent the money directly into my bank account.

A purple payment form could be an Auszahlungsschein, which is similar to a cheque. Normally, the recipient presents this at his local Swiss Post and the amount is paid out in cash, after signing and showing an official ID. It might also be possible to deposit the amount into a PostFinance account, if you have one.

This is a picture of an Auszahlungsschein:

It looks very like that, though smaller, I'm missing the top 2 rows where you have addresses

I don't have a post finance account, I use a normal bank. Anyway to use that?
Any cost to going to the post office and getting it in cash? (would be OK for me)

Yep, got that too today. They just wrote they will transfer the money to my bank account (but I get their invoices via e-banking therefore they know my account and would not send me a check).
If you are with Swica you got a lot more money back in Vaud than me (and payed more through the year )

They also gave an envelope with stuff I've to fill in... I don't know what to make of it.
As said the purple thing does look a bit different to the one in the picture. I suspect I have to send something away

If you usually deal with your insurer in English what stops you from calling them a) asking about the check and b) ask them to resend the rest in English as to normal procedure?

STOP !!
The Kantonalen Prämienausgleich thingy is normally done automatically and no further information is needed. Importantly, the Prämienausgleich is done through your basic health insurance and not through some other company or agent. In Vaud they will either credit it to your bank account (if your insurance has the relevant data) or send a purple cashier cheque.
If it is a purple cheque just try to cash it at any post office. There is no fee. If it is not a legit Auszahlungsschein they will tell you.

If you can cash it you know that your insurance provider took the opportunity to use the Prämienausgleich for some cross selling and advertisement. Not nice. If the cheque bounces it may have from some third party which used the opportunity to scam some unsuspecting and uninformed people. Really not nice, but evil.
