Haven't been billed - what happens? I haven't been billed for some appointments, procedures, etc. I had done awhile ago. My question is, if I prod my health insurance about this, how do they proceed? Do they specifically ask the hospital about appointments and procedures I've been seen for or...? Also, do health insurance companies have the right to ask the hospital about specific appointments and procedures if I told them I was supposed to be billed for them? |
Re: Haven't been billed - what happens? You just wait, they have five years to bill you. Tom |
Re: Haven't been billed - what happens? Five years? Can you direct me to a source that actually states this? And what happens if after five years they still haven't billed you? |
Re: Haven't been billed - what happens? It may be the hospital hasn't sent your insurance company their bills yet or it hasn't worked its way through the insurance's system to reach you. Don't forget things work on an end of the month basis here for a lot of things. Our GP for example sent his latest bill for February treatment to our insurance company in March/April, I assume was paid by our insurance April/May, they billed us in May for payment by end of June. |
Re: Haven't been billed - what happens? Well, it's actually been about a year and I haven't been billed yet. Would my health insurance company even do anything if I called about it? |
Re: Haven't been billed - what happens? I'd check with the doctor/hospital first and see if they've just missed invoicing the insurance company. |
Re: Haven't been billed - what happens? Why go to the insurance company? If you haven't been billed, talk to the medical practitioner or organisation that treated you. When I was leaving Switzerland I was keen for as many of my medical bills as possible to come through before I left, for administrative reasons. I contacted the doctors who had seen me and who had not yet billed them, explained the situation and asked them to send me their bills as soon as possible. No-one had a problem with doing this. |
Re: Haven't been billed - what happens? Will this inevitably sort out itself? Actually quite curious about health insurance companies having "5 years" to bill you. If anyone has more info on that, do share! |

I have tried, of course, but didn't get any relevant results! I asked because perhaps you know specifically since you provided the information. Quote:

Re: Haven't been billed - what happens? Sometimes they take long time to send you the bills. I received some after 13 months of visit. Some of friends even received after much longrr gap. Thanks Quote:
