Minor sport injuries and accident insurance

It looks like I might have sprained my knee 3 days ago while playing tennis. I remember when it happened, but since it only felt like a stretch I didn't pay attention and continued playing. When going home I was feeling mildly to moderate pain when walking and flexing the knee. I tried to play again and it does bother me when doing pivoting movements.

Are these type of minor sport injuries covered by accident insurance? For example if it turns out it's a minor ligament stretch or o a minor meniscus lesion which will heal conservatively, would accident insurance cover the initial doctor appointment and possibly an MRI?

Do you work? My insurance from work also covers accidents anywhere. Had to inform HR and all bills were sent directly to the accident insurance

Yes and I have private accident coverage. I'm just a bit skeptical about the accident claim because the injury does seem minor to me... and I guess theoretically one could also claim it's an overuse injury...

Better have it checked if it bothers you. I had an accident, thought it was only a sprain to find out 2 weeks later I had broken a part of my ankle and torn 2 tendons..........

You don't need to 'claim' anything. Just tell them what happened, it will be covered.

It is important to get it looked at ASAP, both from the perspective of early treatment possibly helping avoid further injury, and also that SUVA (or your insurer) get it registered so you can therefore get any ongoing treatment or prescriptions billed directly to them. Don't delay, as it may be more difficult in six months time, for example, to show that further damage is a result of an accident injury, not just wear and tear.

You don't really need both if you're working since your employer's accident insurance will cover it. Save yourself some money and cancel the private one.
