When the card arrive?

Hello everyone...
I have just a quick question, i do not understand when my health insurance card will arrive.
I started working in June, my employer should have subscribed an insurance for me (the mandatory).
I have the card for the accidents but not the one for insurance. What if i have to go to the hospital right now? What do i have to tell them?
How to know for sure if i have an insurance or not ?

I'm asking because in my salary slip there is the line for this cost but i would not know how to act if i have to go to a doctor or an hospital.

Ah, and last question.. I discovered i might have a dental carie. In this case the Lamal would not cover it, correct? I just would have to take an appointment to a dentist and pay upfront? How much would it normally cost?

Thanks a lot guys, sorry for these many questions.

Re: When the card arrive?

Employers don't normally provide health insurance cover, only the accident part is mandatory for them. You need to arrange your own health insurance cover, excluding the accident cover, with a Swiss insurance company. Since you've been here since June you need to do this asap as your commune/gemeinde may put you on their default insurance scheme if you don't provide proof of health insurance coverage within 3 months of arriving.

If your employer does provide full health insurance coverage then chase this up with your HR department.

As for dental, no not covered so expect to pay a few hundred francs.

Thanks,

but my employer should cover for the mandatory insurance (they would pay also for 70% of the complementary one).

If this is the situation, do i expect to get the card at home or workplace in how much time?

It is rather odd an unusual that your employer pays for health insurance. This is normally up do everybody self to sort out. Are you sure this is really health insurance and not for ex. sick day insurance or plain accident insurance which gets deducted?

Legally you are covered by the Swiss health insurance scheme from the first day you registered. You have 3 month since arrival date to find an insurance provider which is suitable for you. Because you are covered from start they are not only allowed by law but actually must back charge you for the time period you did not have an insurance (sometimes they may forget and do not back charge).

If you have to go to the hospital right now there are these two options:
- They will send you a bill by post
- They want to see your credit card and you have to prepay
In either case take up mandatory ASAP and either forward the bill to, or request a reimbursement from the insurance.

Correct dentists are normally not covered by Lamal (mandatiry health insurance) only if the dental treatment is directly related to an illness. Cavities /caries is not an illness.

The only valid answer in such a situation: Check with your HR, only they know how it should work

Normally in cases where the employer covers health insurance the employee looks for its own coverage, then sends a copy of the insurance policy to HR, which then adjusts monthly payout accordingly.

Based on experience, if it is not a life-threatening condition/emergency at the time of request for admission then some hospitals do not offer post-pay (i.e. sending you a bill afterwards), they require prepayment, - and generally this is a fixed amount and you then do receive a bill by post, but just for the difference.

Re: When the card arrive?

Apparently, i misunderstood and company pays for 70% of both lamal and complementary but still i need to register by myself. Tomorrow i will send the form.
Fortunately i discovered this now... on the 1st of sept will be 3 months i'm here. Will I have any trouble if i prove i sent the form earlier?

Re: When the card arrive?

Sort of misdating the form I don't see how you can send it earlier.

Just get the form done and make sure you have a copy of it signed and dated by you to show to your commune/gemeinde admin office to prove you have health insurance cover. Otherwise you may end up on their policy as well and have problems cancelling that.

Sorry, I meant that if it will arrive after the 1st of september will i have issues?

I will do that, i think i have to send it directly to our reference person in the insurance company used by mine the most. So i'll have the mail to be printed whatsoever.

You can get troubles for misdating papers, but i would not be to worried about a day more or less, from others (Kanton Zürich) i know they got a letter telling them they have not yet signed up for an insurance and that there's a short period left to do so and else they sign you up which can be a much more expensive solution.

Re: When the card arrive?

Hello guys,

yes, the day after i sent the form to my company and yesterday i received the insurance policy.
The thing is... i had to subscribe also a complementary policy to obtain the discount on both lamal and the complementary. I got two certificates, one of one page with a monthly fee and only the LAMal and the other one with lamal on front and complementary on back, but the amounts for on the first page (the lamal ones) are different... how does this work?

Plus, if i go for example to the dentist do i have to tell him that i have a complementary insurance?
I thought that he would bill me as if i had no insurance and then i have to send the bills to the insurance company to get a refund.

I come from italy, there it was so much easier... you go with your card to the doctor/hospital and usually you pay nothing.

Dentist depends on whether you have extra insurance for that. If not, you pay for it yourself.

Why did you take out the non-mandatory insurance? Not that it is a bad thing

Most of the time I do not need to pay anything either as it is covered by the insurance. If there is anything to pay the insurance will send me an invoice (now electronically, directly to my e-banking tool). Not that difficult

All of this info is in your policy's rulings which we don't know.

because my company would reimburse 70% of both only with both subscribed.
So basically i need to tell the dentist of this and probably i won't pay anything upfront right?

You tell the dentist what insurance you have and they will either send you a bill or clear it directly with the insurance....

Ask them for one in English?? Most of the insurances do have that if you ask them

Wrong, as most complementary insurances don't cover dental.

You will have to pay, and submit the bill to the insurance, and if you are very, very lucky, they might pay some part of it.
