Insurance for low mileage Caterham

I have a Caterham, but sadly do less than a few thousand Km per year - too much work!!! Does anyone know where I can get a limited mileage policy?

In Switzerland you can have one set of plates, with tax and insurance, for two vehicles you own. Look for Wechselschilde.

They don't exist, but you can take it off the road for the periods that you don't use it by handing in the plates which will save you the insurance and road tax.

Re: Insurance for low mileage Caterham

Just want to thank both replies. I hadn't thought about sharing plates with our other car - a great suggestion.

In respect of returning the plates, that would also be possible. However, I'm a bit concerned about the notice required to get them back + being able to keep the number. I suspect it's not a case of deciding to give the car a run on the Monday and getting the plates back on the Friday. I'm not looking to mothball the car. It's just I only get opportunity to drive it once a month - big shame, I know!

Re: Insurance for low mileage Caterham

If you drive less then 7 K a year, some insurances may knock about 100 SFr off your annual payment. Best is to use transferable plates (Wechselschield) and pay just one insurance premium.

What that guy said.

Also, when you somewhere in Schwarzwald last June with other Caterhams?

That was a fun encounter.
For me.

My girlfriend still has nightmares about it

Wechselnummer is the way to go. Mothballing (or just "Oh, it's too much bother to plate it again" for a couple of years isn't good for the car, or you.

Talk to your insurance, they may have a low mileage option.
