Didn´t they do that during the height of bird flu?

Tom | | | | | Ha!
I arrived at Accra airport one evening at the peak of the Ebola crisis.
Security staff had set up heat cameras to detect infection in the newly arrived. You could see your own thermal image on the screen as you went through.
For reasons I couldn't grasp, my face scanned too hot and I wasn't allowed to go past. I tried again and it failed. I was getting a little nervous and I asked the security staff what I should do.
He pointed to a huge mobile air con unit in the corner of the arrivals hall and told me to stand under it for 5 minutes and let the air blow on my face.
When I returned, my face looked like I'd had botox and I was freezing. The guy smiled and nodded me through the check.
Good thing I didn't have ebola, although I did catch a cold two days later.

Tom | | | | | When we went to SA for a vacation a few years back, it was the height of the Ebola outbreak and they had thermal scanners at immigration. It's not full-proof, no, but it's a decent initial screening method.

I went to a remote island in the Atlantic on holiday this year and my temperature was (forehead) checked on arrival to make sure I hadnt got Ebola, because our plane had transited via Ghana.

If you have ever flown feeling really unwell you wouldn´t recommend it to anyone | | | | | I've done it - I spent the whole of a flight to Australia from Asia shivering under a blanket. I went straight to hospital on my arrival and spent two weeks there.
In my defence, the fever didn't start until a couple of hours into the flight and the cabin crew ignored me as they thought I was drunk and hungover.
It wasn't such a big deal. When you're delirious with a high fever, you don't actually care where you are.

Flew back from Egypt with with wife, both with food poisoning. Wasn't my favourite flight, but we made it. One of the very rare occasions we have been upgraded to business class.... and we spent it horizontal, shivering, holding our guts in.

Well I've done it too, but t'other way round. Had a fabulous holiday in Cape Town when I was still teaching full time in UK. We were lucky enough to have a spare seat next to us- and about 1 hour into the flight, the hostess brought a young woman to sit in said spare seat, after the people she was sitting next to complained about her constant coughing and the fact she was clearly unwell.
We felt too bad to refuse, so tried to ignore it for the long flight. Next day I came down with the worst case of flu I've ever had- and even a week later, was too ill to go back to work. I went back to work a few days later- and I coughed so much (teaching a language requires voice projection constantly) - that I was almost sick and passing out.
So I for one, am very grateful to those who do NOT travel when sick - and everyone should have insurance to cover for this.

Quick update, hubby and I are on the mend...paid some fees for another date, hope to see the family in October next year.
Meanwhile, we have booked a flight (with insurance) to sunny Spain for New Years in hopes that we will be mostly recovered and germ free by then. Last year I had the flu from hell, seems like my immune system was ready for this one. Regarding the flu jab, I've had so many friends where they either got sick from it, or it didn't work...on the fence.

Glad to hear you're both on the mend Swisstobe. Had my first night without coughing last night and so far none today. Fingers crossed we'll all be well enough to enjoy the holiday.

You started to be ill on 18th and on the mend on 22nd - blimey, that must be a record. Got the dreaded lurgy when in UK last month - and it was a good 2 weeks- had to sit up in bed to sleep as I was coughing so much.
What happened to 14 days without and 2 weeks with? A miracle.
But very glad for you.

heehehe, you are all so lovely. I have no idea why I've bounded back so quickly...perhaps the universe has decided to be kind to me considering it's recent tricks. Last year I had the same as you Odile, I can really sympathize. By no means am I in top shape yet, but today I will manage to hit the local Manor to scrounge together a Christmas feast. Hubby will drag along and will probably moan the whole time. | The following 2 users would like to thank Swisstobe for this useful post: | |

I bribe mine with gyros from the Greek stall at Zurich HB's Weihnachtsmarkt. His gyros consumption is into double figures this month. |
