Insurance for Newborn: is Private Ward worth it?

I was considering doing private ward insurance for our newborn, since it is quite cheap at this age, but even the insurance broker at my company advised me to reconsider, since in the Children's Hospital in ZH there are only semi private wards and anyway they have already special care for children that are covered by the basic insurance already, so very few people do it. Is it so?

Re: Insurance for Newborn: is Private Ward worth it?

I am unfamiliar with hospitals in Zurich, but we live in Vaud and one of my children has spent significant periods of time in hospital. Honestly, depending on what type of ailment/affliction your child has, I really don't think you have much of a choice. We're most familiar with the CHUV in Lausanne, and if your child needs any type of intensive care (NICU, PICU, and the "intensive" part of the paediatrics ward), there are most definitely no private rooms there. If there are private rooms for kids at all at the CHUV, I didn't see them in over two months spent there.
