Assura charging most expensive plan for first 3 months

Hello there,

after about 2.5 months since registering in Switzerland (November 2017), I have signed an insurance policy with Assura with the cheapest plan, i.e. AssurCall.

When I received my bills I noticed that I was charged more than reported in the contract for my first 3 months.

I asked for explanations and they told me that the Basis plan (the most expensive) was applied for the first 3 months because the AssurCall plan launches in January 2018.

Now the thing is that they could have applied the cheapest 2017 model (i.e. PharMed) rather than the most expensive.

Moreover I wasn't given any information about this, otherwise I would have gone for PharMed in the first place, which even if slightly more expensive than AssurCall, it would save me around 300 CHF in 2018 because of this trick!

Do you think this is fair?
Is there anything I should do, such as reporting this incident?

It just quickly described the plan that I signed for, i.e. AssurCall, no mention to what happened to the 2017 premiums.

What do you mean? I am sure I have it for 2018, but they charged me with the Basis plan for 2017.

No, pay whatever is stated on the contract. And if that is different from what they charge you for, call them, ask them.

So what words are in the contract, what exact model is written in the contract??

Declare the date you arrived that you wanted the cheapest plan.

Ohh, you didn't do that?

Then sorry, you pay the default.

And you pay it retroactivly to the first day of the month you arrived.

How could I declare that if I didn't even know which my insurance company was going to be?

So, in the end, that does seem fair to you. It isn't in my opinions, but thanks for your replies.

According to what you wrote in the second post, the plan only starts in February. What did the contract say about the timeframe from your arrival until Feb.? There has to be wording somewhere about that.

About that part it only says:

"Your arrival date in Switzerland is : 2 November 2017

It is the date of arrival in Switzerland indicated on these documents that is taken into account to define the starting date of the basic insurance."

That's YOUR fault, no-one else's.

The difference is only CHF 100/month for three months, so stop whining and man up!

So, November, December, January at the old rate, as your new one starts on 1 Feb.

Re: Assura charging most expensive plan for first 3 months

You are supposed to be insured from the time you are in Switzerland. You waited for 2.5 months? What Assura has done is retroactively apply the basic plan on you. This is what they are allowed to do.

I do agree with you that it seems unfair but that is the rule of the land. Please go ahead and pay the bills. If you don't, there will be bigger troubles happening. And do take time to read up on the stuff you need to do once you move here or anywhere as that would keep you out of such trouble.

Also, We are being quite helpful with the answers. Can we all be nicer and stop groaning at him/her?
