Supplemental Insurance for "Not Yet Born" Baby

A question to you parents out there. We have our first baby on the way (3 months away!). As recommended, we will be getting supplemental insurance for our baby before he is born.

What supplemental insurance would you recommend?

What did you get that you liked? What is too much? Which did you wish you had?

There are many options out there. So far we are considering something with dental and vision.

We got nothing and just signed him up with the default mandatory insurance.

And why would you get dental insurance while it takes at least 1,5 yrs before you see a dentist anyway and insurances will accept your kid by then without problems anyway.

Re: Supplemental Insurance for "Not Yet Born" Baby

Hi,
We got a very basic supplemental package (around 15 CHF/month) covering medicines which I find very useful as well as the cost of abroad treatment which we have happened to use at least twice since we travel a lot.
It also covers a cancelation of flight in case of sickness or transportation from abroad to Switzerland if necessary => options to consider if you travel a lot.
But yes, visual aids or things like crouches etc. are covered too.

Regarding dental: our basic insurance covers free dental care in the first year which is useless as sometimes babies even don't have all the teeth. Additionally, you will get an invitation for a free dental checkup when your baby turns two years. In my honest opinion no dental care is much required until the milk teeth are gone.

Good luck!
