rise in health insurance premium

This month I noticed that my health insurance premium has gone up. There was no notice of this from the insurance company and apparently I'm strapped to the contract until the end of November 2007.

Is it true that you can't change insurance companies at will?

Well, every insurance company is legally obliged to inform its customers about upcoming premium changes in time, so that the insurance policy can be terminated by the customer. Usually, insurance companies send out this information between October and November. If you're absolutely certain you didn't get that info this year, you should still be able to terminate the policy. Before you do so, make sure you find another insurance company for your complimentary insurance policies as only the basic insurance plan is guaranteed to be offered by any company of your choosing.

Hi long time no communicate...
The health insurance is allowed to rise by the rate of inflation without you being informed. Any change to the terms of the policy including the premiums must be communicated in writing. The problem here is that the insurance company can reasonably say we sent it to you and how do you prove otherwise? There is no obligation on behalf of your health insurance company to send via recorded mail...

And afraid so you cannot change health or for that matter any insurances at will only after certain events. Note that this is more or less the same with any insurance - you pays your money for cover for a set length of time... That you probably pay it monthly only happens to be to your benefit but the policy is calculated for the risk for the period of time stated ie one year.

Re: rise in health insurance premium

hi, gooner
i've already read your post and i must say that the deadline for saying them what you mean about raising the premium of that kind of insurance is end of November of each year. "you should have know" that's the slogan...in a case of not getting mail from the insurance company you should ask them if they are raising and then make your mind to it. Richard is still a well informed bloke you can trust his words.

By the way...

A Happy New Year 2007!
