Accident insurance during time between arriving in Switzerland and starting work?

Two questions here, about
1) Accident insurance between arriving in Switzerland and starting work; and
2) Extreme sports that may be excluded from accident insurance cover.

In between arriving in Switzerland and starting work, I plan to do some mountaineering above 4000m in Switzerland. I want to be sure I have insurance cover for medical treatment in case of an accident.

I understand that the mandatory health insurance would be back-dated to the month of my arrival and cover me during this time. But then I learned, to my great surprise, that what is called 'health insurance' covers sickness but not accidents.

I will have suva accident insurance once I start work. So it seems that I should ask the provider of the mandatory health insurance to include voluntary accident insurance, so that I am covered for the period before I start work. Then once work starts I can figure out how to cancel the voluntary accident insurance (not worrying about that for now; if I have to pay through the end of the year, so be it).

But then, I want to know whether I am covered for medical treatment for mountaineering accidents over 4000m, with or without a certified guide. There are some vague statements about excluding accidents arising from exceptional risks or acts of daring. I can't find a list or definition of what this includes. Is this defined by the law, or the insurer?

I tried to read what I think is think is the relevant law but can't find a list of exclusions. I can sort of read French, but have difficulty understanding legal documents in any language:

Thanks for any help with understanding how the system works.

Accident insurance is mandatory and part of the health insurance.
Art. 1a LAMal https://www.admin.ch/opc/de/classifi...index.html#a1a

In case you are covered otherwise you can opt out (for ex. employed at least 8h/week). If you are no longer covered throug other meas you must reactivate the accident coverage
Art. 8 LAMal https://www.admin.ch/opc/de/classifi.../index.html#a8

Opting out is a simple process, and is in force the next month:
One example: https://www.css.ch/en/home/privatper...lldeckung.html

AFAIK the accident coverage of the standard insurance covers treatments only. In any case, regardless how it happened.

In case of the work accident insurance it has additional perks such as monetary payments and pensions. those can be reduced or even canceled in case the accident happened in a known high risk situation.

Frankly I would get specialist sports/travel insurance to cover you for a few weeks before you start work. If you do have an accident you don't want to be arguing about whether it was covered or not by your Swiss health insurer. And that cover will only apply from the date you register as being a resident - if you plan to do that after your break you won't be covered anyway.

This is Switzerland - you're describing a normal Sunday stroll here.

OK, seriously according to this (sorry, not available in English), climbing is normally NOT on the list of exceptionally dangerous sports unless you seriously ignore "normal safety precautions" - whatever they might be. Probably best to ask your Krankenkasse how they interpret this for accident insurance purposes.

Basically, unless you have a death wish you're probably OK.

I'd recommend as additional security to sign up for Rega rescue service. We have this as well as accident insurance, not that we go mountaineering but they offer a full airlift / air ambulance, and repatriation service, too.
