Swiss Health Insurance - Overseas Work Secondment

Just looking for some quick guidance before I have chance to call my Swiss health insurer to formalise...

I am a British citizen who is resident in Switzerland. I have health insurance in Switzerland. I have been requested to take on a work secondment overseas for a fixed period of three months (outside of the EU). I will remain resident in Switzerland during this time (maintain rented apartment, be paid here, pay tax here etc.). I will return to Switzerland upon expiry of the three months.

Will my Swiss health insurance cover me during this time abroad? For what its worth I pay for an additional 'mundo' which gives me an extra CHF100,000 cover beyond the usual 200% 'cost of Switzerland' coverage.

Surely the easy option is to ask the health insurance?

I have travel insurance with my credit card which covers a holiday. Also SUVA will cover accidents on holiday and I think the health insurance will also. But for longer term work assignments, no idea.

Your company are sending you there. HR must be responsible for ensuring you are there legally and have the required insurances to be safe. Speak to HR. As they should also be coughing up for any supplement premium you require

If you are still resident while you are away, surely the insurance must be paid - it is compulsory for almost everyone who is resident here. Try asking your company if you can have an exemption, - the worst they can say is you have to pay, right?

He said he's paying his Swiss health insurance...

His question is whether or not said Swiss health insurance will cover the 3 months while he's abroad.

I see.

Emergenices seem to be covered in the EU and EFTA countries.

He/she states they are going to a non-EU country. If it is Norway or Iceland, then coverage is the same as if it were in the EU. If it is another country the advice is to check with health insurance company.

Re: Swiss Health Insurance - Overseas Work Secondment

When I went on assignments abroad, I kept my Swiss health insurance and got a company insurance for the countries without reciprocal agreements or much higher cost.
