neutralname has no particular reputation at present
when changing health insurance company(Lamal), first months fees not reimbursed?

Apologies for my ignorance.
I have been with Assura in the last 3 years and think about changing to another company for Lamal (basic insurance) as I may see a doctor and/or do a hernia surgery between Jan and March.

I just heard from a friend saying that if I change company for 2019 then the medical costs incurred in the first few months in 2019 will not be reimbursed. sounds like a waiting period.

Is this true in a general case?

Thanks for your knowledge

Seems strange to me. Perhaps what your friend means, is that you will have to pay your franchise and 10% up to 700chf- before insurance kicks in.

Agree with Odile, this is probably related to the franchise/deductible.

It doesn't matter which insurance you go with, the franchise resets at the beginning of the new year.

Not a waiting period but costs won't be reimbursed until you've exceeded the franchise. If you've already exceeded the franchise for 2018 it would be financially better if you could have the surgery in 2018. It makes no difference if you switch or not.
