Insurance for funeral repatriation and in case I get seriously ill, a relative will travel to Switzerland to take care of me with paid expenses.
That is something you need to get in your home country, not here.

Speed is essential in donating organs, so this is one for the donors. Studies seem to suggest that the brain, although technically dead can, still "feel" the organs being taken in excruciating detail, brain scans light up across the board meaning that the brain is feeling pain when the doc starts to cut. This is one of the reasons your body will sometimes be injected with a sedative before they start yanking your guts out.

Have fun thinking about it.
I hope you have officially opted out of ever receiving an organ.

Donīt mind getting one if I need one, just not going to be giving one.

I still do not get it. Why would you need to be repatriated (unless YOU want that) and why would a relative have to take care of you in a country where health service is pretty ok ??
My former funding agency requires it. It's bureaucracy. Bureaucracy doesn't need a reason to exist, but I guess they don't want to be sued by my relatives if something happens to me in Switzerland.

Tried that, not provided for more than 6 months and I need 1 year. I'm about to give up. I'll just tell my funding agency that I'm sorry, but no company provides these benefits and I promise my family and I are not suing them in case I get ill or die in Switzerland.

What has your "former" funding agency got to do with? If they're not funding/involved with you now who the heck cares?

My contract said I would go back to my country of origin for 18 months from January 2019. I asked them to postpone it and they agreed ... as long as I sent them a copy of my health insurance for 2019 providing funeral repatriation etc.

I'm doing scientific research in Switzerland and learning from Swiss researchers. I'm supposed to go back to my country of original so I can share what I learned in Switzerland with researchers there. It would make a lot of sense, except that when I go back, I will be unemployed. I could stay there for 18 months selling hot dogs for a living and it would be fine by them.

That I can understand, especially if someone paid you for being able to do that, doesnīt explain the having your body transported back worst case

Re: Health insurance and funeral repatriation

Is there any chance that by repatriation, they mean that if you are ill you will be transported home and perhaps a family member will come and fly you back? NOT that if you die your body is sent home?

The reason I ask is that I once sat next to a nurse on the plane. Her job was to go to other countries, fetch very sick patients, and repatriate them back to their home country.

The idea a relative would be sent to live here to care for you sounds upside-down, as does the idea you have to guarantee your body goes home.

Re: Health insurance and funeral repatriation

Great news! I got tired of looking for insurance and told my funding agency that Swiss health insurance doesn't offer the required benefits but I'm required by the Swiss government to get it. I said I would sign a document saying I won't sue them or hold them responsible for anything that happens to me in Switzerland. They said they understand my situation and as long as I send them this document, it's okay not to get repatriation and so on! Problem solved! Thanks, English Forum.
