Health Insurance for corss-border workers (living in France working in Basel)

Hello all,

I was looking in the forum and found different answers. So I would like to ask again to be sure.

I am currently living in Germany and will soon start a job in Basel. At the same time I am planning to move to France.

I read in some posts that you can choose between the french and the swiss health systems. Is it still the case? What would be thr process for me, as I am currently insured with the german health system.

Thank you all for your help

As far as I am aware you can continue to remain insured with the Swiss system whilst residing in any bordering country whether working or not. Nevertheless the premium will change once you switch your residence from Germany to France.
I believe it will go up a little, but it may depend on the provider.

Thank you for the answer.

Though I didn't understand it fully. As I am moving directly to france without living in Swizerland. Can I register to the swiss system and not to the french?

What would be the process as for now I have a health insurance from Germany.

Yes. You are eligible for Swiss health insurance. You need to cancel the German one upon departure as it is no longer relevant.
You need to then sign up for the Swiss one and not the French one. The start date of the Swiss health insurance will be the day from which you are resident in France.
