Insurance for uk

Hello
My husband is an Indian resident with a Switzerland L permit valid till 30 April 2020.
He is due to travel tomorrow on a tourist visa to UK.
His current insurance which is a corporate one will not cover UK nor can they extend it to cover UK
Can someone please advise which insurance I can use
He leaves Tomo so it is a little urgent
Regards
M

Re: Insurance for uk

He should check the website of any major Swiss insurer. I'm sure they can arrange it on the day.

Re: Insurance for uk

As an L permit is a short-term residence permit, surely he has a Swiss Krankenkasse (as it is compulsory)? This always includes coverage across the EU which (at least until end October) includes the UK. He should have an EHIC card from the insurer.

Well, there is that. From the Swica site

The reverse side of the card is the European insurance card. It enables doctors, hospitals and other providers to settle the costs of emergency treatment within the EU/EFTA area with SWICA directly, which means you won’t have to make any payment – except for eventual co-payments.

However, the OP says "His current insurance which is a corporate one will not cover UK nor can they extend it to cover UK". If it was accepted by the commune, that's the situation he's in.

Until I got BUPA worldwide cover, I always used Columbus. Found them very good and the one small claim i made was paid out without fuss.

Zurich also have a good travel insurance policy but not sure if it covers medical.

If he is resident in India, he should be seeking travel insurance in India.

If he is resident in Switzerland his EHIP card should cover him for emergencies anywhere in the EU.

He's resident in Switzerland with a L permit, apparently covered by corporate insurance that doesn't cover him in the UK.

Covered for what? is the question, EHIC only covers emergency treatment, I don't believe a Swiss resident does not have an EHIC.
