does health insurance cover taxi to doctor?

Hi all
I cannot drive or take public transport due to foot injury.
Does health insurance cover taxi costs?
or would that be another insurance?

sub-question

the doctor appt is at uni spital zurich. do/would they offer wheelchairs to get from reception to doctors office ??? ( it is a long way big hospital and would be difficult with crutches due to old wrist injury)

thanks in advance
Kari

No. If it was an accident it's possible that accident insurance would pay.

What about supplemental insurance, if OP has that?

Is there another type of service, like Spitex or something, that does transport for people with limited mobility? A friend of the family used to be a volunteer driver for some kind of organization, but as he's passed on I have no idea what it was or how it worked.

Our commune has such a service run by volunteers, both my husband and myself have driven people to hospital appointments as volunteers. We just get reimbursed a certain amount per kilometre towards fuel costs.
It might be worth the OP checking if such a service exists in their commune/gemeinde.

This. I'm still surprised that many people oversee the most obvious solution for a question.

Fahrdienst is what this is. I drive for them locally. Cost is usually CHF10 per ride back and forth...

we have an language issue the insurance and I.
I have been with them for about 15 years and do not want to move to another agency because they have been very good to me. the set back is (as there always has to be) I understand french but now live in the german side and when one chooses french option on the phone one gets transferred to the french roman and they cannot help me in German area. I do not understand German enough and English is an not an option.

I find it hard to believe that not one person speaks English ... but OK.

Every insurer and/or policy will be different, your question is not a universal one that can be answered unless you speak to them directly.

I was under the assumption most insurers would have English speakers on the line. My insurance documents come out to me in English.

Re: does health insurance cover taxi to doctor?

Here's a link to the Red Cross transport services.

In one, they provide a driver with his/her own car. This is not free, but it is a way to get help. 70 Rappen per km, to be Paid in cash to the driver. In some regions, there is a flat rate per trip. It includes 90 minutes' waiting for you or escorting you, for example through the hospital. You're supposed to book at least 3 days in advance.

The other involves having someone escort one by public transport. You pay only for their ticket on the tram/bus network. You're supposed to book a full week in advance, but even if you need help sooner, you could still ask whether they could make it possible.
https://www.srk-zuerich.ch/mobil-mit...SAEEgKY9vD_BwE.

There is a phone service as well as a contact form. I'd recommend using both.

Oh, and yes to the wheelchair in the hospital. That is very likely possible. There, too, you could phone in advance to say when you're coming in and from where to where you'll need a wheelchair.

Thank you so much for the information.

some insurances offer English as a language
my insurance is a small co. EGK their website has some English but nothing that is substantial.
they have not offered this so far and all my attempts to speak to someone in English have failed. I have been with them for 15 years.

Later this aft. my neighbor called the insurance for me and it is correct that reimbursement for an appointment is not covered in my polices.

Gosh, that's cheap. Bern is 1.20 CHF per km.

Re: does health insurance cover taxi to doctor?

Let me answer the second part of your question since I haven't noticed a reply to it yet.

Yes, there are wheelchairs available by the main door of the hospital to be used by in-coming patients. And if you don't see one at a moment, you can easily ask at the reception or someone at the information desk.

That's right. The Red Cross is what you want, because you need to get to medical appointments. From what I understand, TIXI and similar services are designed to get disabled folks out and socializing so they're not shut in, and they only pay a portion of the transport fee.

70 Rappen per km is a bargain, imo.

If the visit is for the said foot injury then accident insurance should pay in the case of accident and if not the basic health insurance might pay 50%.

Follow up
1. red cross drive was perfect.
it cost about 25chf for a 25 min drive
NOTE

3 FULL day notice is needed; for a Wednesday appointment they want notice by Thursday.

2. my insurance did not cover as it was not an accident appointment

3. they had wheelchairs at the entrance set up like grocery carts with slots for 2chf so you return them to reception and get the 2chf back.
But they are set up to be pushed from behind (no wheels that can be pushed by hand)so if you alone and your feet are injured they are not for single person use. Must have someone to push.

THANKS TO ALL WHO WERE HELPFUL
GRATEFUL
