Can I claim Jardiance on my health insurance

Last week my diabetes specialist prescribed me Jardiance. I accepted them but after a quick look around the internet I see that a months course costs around 600 chf

Im now wondering if the krankenkasse will pay for this and if not i am even more concerned that the doctor did not tell me how expensive it was.

I will ask tomorrow but the whole question of prescribing expensive drugs here concerns me.

I don't think class A drugs cost that much - not that I would know.

Re: Can I claim Jardiance on my health insurance

Both the doctor and the pharmacist ("Apothekerin") should be able to tell you whether or not any particular medication is covered by the medical insurance and, if not, which alternative products are similar.

Here is the Swiss diabetes organisation. https://www.diabetesschweiz.ch/startseite.html
The site is in German, French and Italian, but if you don't speak any of those you could write to ask if anyone could advise you in English, or just call and ask. As at most advice centres, it might be that they can't help you in English right away, but might suggest a time you could call back, when someone else is on duty.

This page is specifically for people who've moved to Switzerland.

The doctor and the pharmacist are one and the same in this case. I think this has been banned in some Cantons but not Luzern due to a conflict of interest.

Is there a list of drugs/medicines that are not allowed on the krankenkasse . I seen this LPPV website but it does not have a specific list

Have a look on the "Spezialitätenliste 2019" if your exact type of Jardiance is on the list.

Yes that list is exactly what I was looking for. It is on the list and it is not as expensive as I had read in other places. Win Win

Cheers

From wiki:

Quote:
Empagliflozin, sold under the trade name Jardiance among others, is a medication used together with diet and exercise to treat type 2 diabetes.[1][2] It is less preferred than metformin and sulfonylureas.[3] It may be used together with other medications such as metformin or insulin.[1][2] It is not recommended for type 1 diabetes.[1] It is taken by mouth.[1]

Re: Can I claim Jardiance on my health insurance

Husband has it as one of his medications and no problems with the insurance paying for it - CSS.
