Yes it is.

Also, don't forget the self pay. You will additionally pay 10% of the first 7K in annual expenses, so max CHF 700.

A side note:

If you want this done sometime soon, be aware that, canton dependent, it might be difficult to get a routine or necessary but not emergency procedure done until the COVID situation improves. That's my experience in SZ, hopefully things are better in ZH.

In Neuchâtel, the colon cancer test is free- but not sure about a colonoscopy.

Re: Health insurance - checkups / screenings ....

Yes deductible in US English or excess in English English.

As for screenings, I recently received a pamphlet from Basel Stadt saying they have an over 50's bowel cancer screening program and I feel sure they say that the costs are fully covered by the health insurance i.e. there's no deductible to pay. Having said that, I think it also said that I'd get an automatic appointment sometime in the next 4 years. If you're over 50 and want a colonoscopy you can pretty much just ask for one.

Re: Health insurance - checkups / screenings ....

The free test, is for a sample to be tested for traces of blood. That is free- not a colonoscopy, as far as I understand.

Checked and stand corrected

free apart for 10% contribution, pre test meeting with own doctor, test and colonoscopy in case of positif test are paid by basic insurance without franchise.

With respect to cost, I paid CHF 900 for a colonoscopy here https://www.gastropraxis-feldmeilen.ch/kontakt.html in Herrliberg/Feldmeilen.

Re: Health insurance - checkups / screenings ....

Thank you everyone for your help. I've been talking to an insurance person to help me re-evaluate the insurance I have and he just sent me something that I could use some assistance on.

He wrote it in German and I used Google translate so if I'm missing something please let me know. Both are below.

But basically I understand him to say -- The tests I'm looking for are covered under Supplemental insurance and NOT Basic. And All I have is Basic. So if I had supplemental insurance I would pay a fraction of the cost.

Here is what they sent - translated from German to english using Google translate:
We reimburse 80% of the costs up to a maximum from the Classic supplementary insurance

CHF 1,000 per calendar year for the following preventive measures:

Vaccinations
Check-up (incl. 1 HIV test per calendar year)
Gynecological check-ups (including 1 mammogram per calendar year)
Looseness (vasectomy / sterilization)
Back training by qualified physiotherapists on medical prescription
Rough weaning on medical prescription

A check-up is a medical check-up and risk assessment in healthy patients, which reflects the current health situation of a person in the absence of more serious mood disorders and complaints. The examination is usually carried out by the general practitioner or family doctor.

Examples of further check-up examinations:
- colonoscopies
- mammograms
- Birthmark controls
- Measurement of eye pressure
- Examination by the urologist

We can only assess whether the costs from the basic insurance with deduction of the deductible and deductible or from the Classic supplementary insurance can only be determined upon receipt of the invoice from the doctor. As soon as there is a suspicion of a disease value or a disease value, it is no longer a check-up examination. Because the result of the investigation is not certain in advance and because we are obliged to take over the bills from the basic insurance with deduction of the deductible and deductible, we cannot give a definitive cost promise from the additional insurance in advance. Furthermore, the costs from the Classic supplementary insurance are reimbursed after the benefits of the basic insurance under the KVG and the other social insurances in accordance with Section 2 of the General Insurance Conditions (AVB).

Impfungen
Check-Up (inkl. 1 HIV-Test pro Kalenderjahr)
Gynäkologische Vorsorgeuntersuchungen (inkl. 1 Mammographie pro Kalenderjahr)
Unerbindungen (Vasektomie/Sterilisation)
