Regarding Obligatory Insurance

Hi all,

Today i was checking my mailbox and found that I have received a letter from SANITAS for Insurance. Even though I already have insurance from CIGNA.
It seems SANITAS has just enrolled my wife and kid in the insurance.

How can i cancel the SANITAS insurance and continue with CIGNA. Do i need to pay cancellation eventhough it was not done by us and it seems the canton has decided the insurance for us.

TIA

Re: Regarding Obligatory Insurance

Do you qualify for an exception to not have Swiss Health Insurance, and if so did you ever inform the authorities of such?

What you have to do depends on your situation and if you are entitled to an exception, with the information given here nobody can tell you the solution.

Yes, we do qualify for an exception from Swiss health insurance. I did informed it initially when they asked. I have called them and also emailed them.

Re: Regarding Obligatory Insurance

I would contact the canton and again explain the situation and ask them to contact the insurance to cancel the whole thing, if you done everything you should have done you will have to pay nothing.

Re: Regarding Obligatory Insurance

As far as I know, in order to be exempt, you health insurance needs to provide the same coverage as the Swiss basic insurance.

Typically Cigna would not given for example the cap they put on number of practitioner visits or medicines.

Who informed you that you did not need to enroll in the Swiss system? In Switzerland it is not a matter of personal choice with regards to insurance.
