New health Insurance - what should the starting date be?

Hi,

I came to Switzerland 2 months ago and made Insurance yesterday. Today I noticed on my contract that it says I am insured from 2.5. (the day I came into CH).
Since I was still insured in my home country at that time I would not like to pay for the last 2 months of insurance.

My question is, is there a law and it has to be payed since the date you came into Switzerland or was that my mistake for signing the contract?
If that is not necessary is there any way I can still change this?
Thank you

That is correct, your home insurance covered you as a tourist but not as a resident of Switzerland

When done in the first 3 months of arrival a health insurance is legally bound to backtrace to the day of arrival.

You cancelled your old insurance to late which is not a Swiss problem.
