Call from "Swiss Health Audit".

Hi all,
I got a call today from someone claiming to be from a government funded agency that is conducting a "Health Audit" claiming that the Swiss Parliament has mandated a reduction in insurance premiums for some categories and that they would like to meet me to see my current plan and to advise me whether I am eligible for a reduction. They say it's free and does not involve changing to a new provider.
What could be behind this?
TIA.

Re: Call from "Swiss Health Audit".

I've been getting one or two a week, always in German, so I don't fully listen to the whole spiel to know if they're the same bunch, or even, for that matter, if they're trying to flog health insurance. I just listen for a few key words, like "ein paar frage", then hang up.

Actually, now I think about it, there have been a couple recently about wine drinking habits, and they launch straight in, after a brief intro, with "do you drink red or white wine?". I do sometimes leave them hanging just to waste a bit of their time, but in general it's not worth even giving them a thought.

You could try forbidding them to ever call you again, and demand that they update their database by either removing your data entirely or flagging them accordingly. Worked for me for domestic callcenters. In some cases two databases needed updating, that didn't become clear until I asked what would happen with their next round of calls.

Getting those as well. Although the local.ch app is pretty good with alerting you to call center calls but these they seems to miss

Funnily enough, I get them in French - and not very good French at that - even though I live in a German speaking part of Switzerland. They're usually about health insurance too or market research. In England they used to offer me double glazing or new kitchens.

I've created a new contact in my phone's address book marked "Spam" and then blocked the contact. Every time I get a new spam call, I add the number to my Spam contact. That way, if I get another call from the same number it doesn't ring. Seems to work quite well. I've just scrolled through my call history and there hasn't been one for months.

This one seems to be a real scam. I called back the 2 numbers they called me from and they are unlisted.

I google the numbers. They usually come up on various spam watch websites. I never call them back. Wouldn't want to encourage them.

Re: Call from "Swiss Health Audit".

Had a few of the old "I'm calling from Microsoft Windows and there's a problem with your computer" ones recently supposedly calling from a UK number. I just tell them no they're not and hang up.

Re: Call from "Swiss Health Audit".

This usually gets the job done -> interrupt them and ask "Sprechen Sie Englisch?"... they answer nein, you go "Tut mir leid", drop the call, block the number. In the very rare case they answer ja, you say "I'm in a meeting" or "I'm eating"... can you call me back, drop then block.

Re: Call from "Swiss Health Audit".

Ah glad I'm not alone. I got a few calls from them, they even knew my insurer (Swica).

I always replied "Je ne parle pas bon francaise, parlez-vous anglais?".

They stopped calling when I told them my company fully pays my health insurance so I can't really change it (it's a lie but it stopped the calls from coming).

Making an appointment when you are on holiday is always a good time wasting ploy, they turn up at your house & then call you. 'Oh I forgot I was on holiday, can you come on Friday?', when away for 2 weeks. They never call again.

Giving/confirming your home address to random scammers and/or inviting them to your home (even if you're not there)... are you mad? Actually, no need to answer that question, it was rhetorical.

They already have your address from the phone book, but anyway I am not paranoid

It's a good idea to remove yourself from the phone book (for those of you who still have a landline). It costs nothing, and anyone whose calls you WANT to receive, well...they probably already have your number anyhow. I personally think the public phone book is an old habit worth dropping altogether.
