What happens to B permit and health insurance if I quit my job?

Hi friends! I have some permit questions.

I am from Sweden, moved to Zürich in July this year for a one-year architecture internship. Applied and got a five-year B permit, and a student health insurance from Swisscare.

Last month I quit the internship in order to work part-time instead. I've started applying for jobs, but haven't found anything yet.

Now – what's going to happen to my permit and my health insurance if I don't find a job within X amount of time? Will they cancel my insurance? And will I lose my B permit and get kicked out of the country?

Thank you so much for help!

You should check your health insurance to start with as it is linked to your studies and not to working. They will not cancel it but you might get a bill for no longer being a student?

Check your permit as well. Is it a student B permit? Have a look around the permit section, there are lots of answers relating to similar cases.

My health insurance should be linked to the internship contract, on which it says that the internship will last until July 2021...hmm

No, it's a full five-year B-permit, as far as I understand it.

Will have a closer look in the forum...thank you!

Re: What happens to B permit and health insurance if I quit my job?

Ask the Health Department or Competent Authority of the Canton from which you got the exemption.

In case of Canton Zurich:

Considering you are en EU/EFTA-National the worst can happen is that you must get regular Swiss health insurance as you are no longer a trainee.

Btw: Why did you quit from the traineeship before you had a job lined up? Specially given the current economic situation?

What happens to student health insurance if I prematurely quit my internship?

Hi friends! I have a health insurance question.

Thank you so much for help!

Most likely the same as when you find a job: Your student health insurance becomes void and you must get regular Swiss health insurance. Read and understand the terms and conditions of your student health insurance.

The student health insurance? Yes, if your are in breach of contact and you no longer fulfill the conditions according terms and condition. Read and understand the terms and conditions of your insurance under what circumstances they can cancel and also when you must cancel.

If you do not have the mandatory basic health insurance coverage according the Swiss law you can get fined. It is your responsibility to get and have the appropriate coverage.
