Any compensation for impacted independent work due to injury?

Hello,

I recently got my left hand injured during some gardening (not my actual job).
It will mean that for at least 2 months the speed/quality of my independent work will be quite impacted.

I don't expect anything but a friend said that there could be a way to get some compensation/aid for this situation. Is that the case?
I'm an independent worker with a basic insurance and some clients. Am I out of luck or not? Thanks!

You have no "Taggeld"/"Indemnité journalière" insurance?

How can I know?
By reading your accident and health insurance policy documents.

Normally, your accident insurance goes with your job/employer. If you are Independent, you have to subscribe yourself for accidents, on top of your normal health insurance. Which you have done, I presume?

Not sure you have accident insurance? It's quite difficult not to, unless you were previously employed and haven't bothered to inform the commune/gemeinde of your change of status. They would normally chase you up on this when you first move here or change your residence, and when your B/C permit is up for renewal.

The extra premium on top of your existing health insurance, which is how it's normally done, is very little, something like chf10 per month, so you could easily have forgotten or not noticed it. If you needed treatment for your injury how was that covered?

Whether it covers you for loss of independent earnings is another matter, but normally loss of earnings is covered to some level.

Even if you have accident insurance added to your health insurance (if you are unemployed or self-employed you really need to make sure you have this because if you are in an accident you want your medical bills paid)...... it doesn't cover loss of earnings.

You really really must check NOW- and get it added to your normal health insurance. It won't cover loss of earnings- but if you have any accident, of any kind- the alternative does not bear thinking about.

When I was 19, I spent 7.5 months in hospital, then 2 more years to recover, with many operations and physio. I just cannot even begin to estimate what the cost was? (and that through zero fault of my own).

Depends, if you get that as well it does.

Re: Any compensation for impacted independent work due to injury?

Loss of earnings insurance can be expensive depending on the payout delay and amount of insured earnings. When I was independant I decided not to take it and made my own reserves.
