Content insurance?

Today my bike was stolen, and made me think is it worth it to get a "Content insurance". I'm literally fresh out of college, so I don't know too much about the world of insurance. I am also on a 1 year contract here for work, and I'm about 3 months into it.

Should I get insured before buying another bike?

No idea but have a bump since you posted this late yesterday and folks might not have seen it.

Re: Content insurance?

Google "how does insurance work" or something similar, and take it from there.

Re: Content insurance?

I use Smile, which is an online service and they have a bike insurance as standard. It also works in English.
Bike has to be locked before they (or anybody else) would pay up.

Re: Content insurance?

My inexpensive 'run around town' bike is covered under our standard household insurance, but OH was advised that he needed some sort of extra coverage for his fancier bikes.

When you take out insurance ask if there are any conditions to covering your particular bike model.

Has to have been, but how could anybody check that? Also I would suppose that it had to have been locked *to* something, is that also the case?

Re: Content insurance?

In any major town it's best to buy the cheapest 2nd hand bike of the day and expect to replace it at least every 6 months.

Re: Content insurance?

Not really sure why this came-up as a new post today but:

One thing you usually do at least need to get here is personal liability insurance (in case you cause damage - it doesn’t cost much) - Swiss students are usually covered for this by their parents insurance, until they move out of home. Whether you want to go for household insurance is a personal choice.

I’m with Smile, and their web-site is not in English. But AXA is another very reputable company here, and you will find links to info on that and bike insurance below - online quotes are done really easily:

Personal liability:
https://www.axa.ch/en/private-custom...insurance.html

Bikes and sporting equipment:
https://www.axa.ch/en/private-custom...insurance.html

Household:
