Benefits while self-employed

Hi all,

I've been working as self-employed for a few years now in Zurich. I've been paying the obligatory social security payments for Pillar 1. I'm starting to plan for the future and would like to have a few back-up plans in case, for example, I get unemployed or get sick temporarily (for example I break my arm and can't work for 2 months).

What would be the best way to get some coverage for such eventualities as self-employed? Starting paying into Pillar 2? Or some other insurance model?

Many thanks for advance.

Re: Benefits while self-employed

I may be wrong but my understanding is that people who are officially self-employed do not have access to RAV benefits. You can take out accident insurance but I suspect that covers you for the cost of medical treatment rather than compensation for lost income. As I say, I may be wrong. This was the main reason I resisted attempts by the RAV to get me to become self-employed -- I was nervous about the certainty of future work. Pillar 2 is a secondary pension pot and does not entitle you to RAV benefits.

Re: Benefits while self-employed

You need something like this for sickness/accident https://www.groupemutuel.ch/en/compa...Challenge.html

Not sure anything exists for simple "unemployment".
