how high is the bill for phone call to medgate?

So, I'm trying to figure out how insurance works, and so far my favorite is sanitas callmed, where you have to call medgate center but you're not bound by their recommendation.

What I can't decipher is how much such calls cost?

I mean, if you choose GP model, and go directly to your GP, you'll get a bill for that visit and bills for other visits where GP sends you.

Since this medgate center can send you directly to some specialist, which bills do occur?

And if you really pay for those phone consultations (which is my assumption), how much they cost and how much GP visit cost (ZH Canton)?

Because, monthly premium for this callmed option is a bit cheaper than GP model, so I'm pondering where's the catch

Thanks

Re: how high is the bill for phone call to medgate?

My husband has a Telmed policy and has never been charged for the calls. It’s cheaper because you have to ring and get permission for medical treatment - which prevents people just nipping to see the Dr for every little thing, therefore reducing costs for the insurance.

What’s the first three digits of the phone number?

080 calls are free, 084 numbers are the local domestic call rate. Anything beginning with 09? is paid.

I've seen charges for calling the Aerztefon appear on my health insurance bills, but can't remember how much it is, only that it was cheaper than going for an actual appointment, around 40 francs I think. Medgate will probably be the same.

Re: how high is the bill for phone call to medgate?

Im with Assura and have the Telmed policy with max excess. Iv called them up twice this year, made an appointment for a doctor to call back. Both times a doctor called me back within a couple of hrs, great advice on the phone, medicine recommend (not prescription) and a sick note given via email. No charges for anything. You have to follow the EXACT details and policy procedures i think, if you call a GP direct or go outside what is described by your provider then you will probs be charged.

Re: how high is the bill for phone call to medgate?

@island monkey & kittster: thanks, I guess the conclusion is that it might cost something, depending on your insurance company but will definitely be less than going to the GP doc IRL
If you don't mind me asking, which insurance companies are you referring to?

@bowlie: no clue about phone number, I don't even have the insurance yet, I'm researching / trying to figure out how it works

I like the idea that someone has my records and that I can call and get regular prescriptions I need without getting out of my flat. Or if I have some doubts. Or for referrals for again regular stuff. I guess some thing might work with GP, but since I'm not here yet, and I have no clue how long will it take me to get a good GP, having more options sound better
And who knows, maybe they're even able to give a good recommendations for specialists... worth a try

I've seen clauses in the rules that you'll be charged for services you did when skipping them, and that they'll remove you from discount options if you're repeated offenders, but I just couldn't find how much call to their telmed call center will cost you (beside the call itself), eg will you get the bill to pay for those consultations.

So, in your case with assura, no additional charges, that's good to know

I have no problems with following the rules here
Just that price lists aren't available

I mean, I have no clue how much GP visit will cost me, or some specialists, or some procedures and I have bunch of them to do regularly :/
But if I don't have to go to GP to get the prescriptions/referrals for each, that means lower bill in total
And if such calls don't even come up with the 'consultation bill', that's awesome

First call will be a long one, I see already

Call costs to 084x numbers are limited by regulation, they can't cost more than 0.075 CHF per minute, plus VAT (0.08/min incl VAT), the cost is independent of your location within CH.

The medical advice by Medgate is free if you're insured by the "right" insurance company. With option CallMed they're to be your first stop/call (a few exceptiosn apply). See bottom-ish on this page, also for the "few exceptions".

Honestly, you managed to confused me

I know that with callmed I have to call medgate first, if that's the purpose of linking this? Because I'm really familiar with that page and documents.

What I asked is how much I should expect to pay for such phone consultations since that's nowhere to be seen. At least, I cannot see it.

And then this "advice is free if you're insured by the right insurance" utterly confused me. What do you mean by that?

Like, that anyone and everyone can call them, but they'll issue a bill for you unless you're insured in a model where they're obligatory, like sanitas callmed and then they won't issue a bill to you for phone consultations?

If your health insurance requires you to contact Medgate before consulting a doctor, then you won't pay for Medgate (other than the price of the phone call). If your insurance doesn't have an agreement with Medgate, they will bill you for the consultation.

Re: how high is the bill for phone call to medgate?

I don't have a medgate/telemed policy, so forgive me if this is a silly question:

Do you get medical advice over the phone?

I was under the impression that with my insurer (CSS) the call was mostly to get authorization to see a doctor.

Would consider switching if I could actually get medical advice via a phone call...

Re: how high is the bill for phone call to medgate?

I have a Telmed policy with Medgate.

The most I've ever been charged is 40 francs for a 10 minute call.
Most times, however, I am not charged for making calls or booking appointments through Medgate.

Awesome, thanks!
That means that anyone can call them no matter which insurance they have. That's good to know.

I can't say for sure since I'm not here yet, but from the official information, yes, you should get the medical advice. That's my main reason for deciding for the call option.
That I can explain to someone what's wrong and they can advise if I should see a doc, or recommend/prescribe some meds if it's dead obvious.

From what I've gathered, there are two types of personnel there - admin, your first point of contact, which can give you authorizations, and doctors, but I think you have to ask to get them and they'll call you back, eg you're not waiting on the call until someone is free.

I like having my GP, but this sanitas callmed sounds interesting, since call to medgate IS NOT binding, so I can get advice/recommendation, or use them to find or book appointments around if I have no clue where to go, but also, I can just listen the advice, discard it and go to GP directly (I think I can even go with specialists, only binding is that I HAVE to call, but after that it's on me). Which basically to me directly enables second opinion when in doubt, so I really really like how it sounds on paper.

Like, there are situations where I just need prescriptions and referrals for conditions I need to watch. And not having to go for those papers (in Germany everything is with papers, in Croatia it was while I was still there) sounds nice from my lazy but perspective
Especially since I tend to choose GP by review, not by location, so that when I need proper medical advice and exam, I go to someone I trust.
But I'm perfectly fine that paperwork solves whoever will listen

I'm highly engaged in my health care (unless I'm lazy to do it), so I research a lot and so, eg. I have some confidence in explaining things I suspect, I need/want and so on.

Can you maybe recall what was different with that call as opposed to others?
Was that one maybe consultation with the doctor, and others are more administrative stuff where you don't even reach the doc?

Sorry for that, not my intention at all. But you're right, that should have been phrased better.
catandmouse explained what I meant much better than I did. "the right insurance" being one that has a contract with Medgate.

Note the heading of the Medgate paragraph in the link, its big fat heading including the "kostenlos"

All were for consultations with the doctor. It's random, like most things here...
