Emergency without insurance

Hi

My 5 year old has a swollen thumb with pus and a blister. We have just moved here and do not have insurance.

Where and how can I take him to see a doctor without insurance? How much will it cost and will the insurance pay it later?

Thanks

Re: Emergency without insurance

Your insurance starts from your first registered day in Switzerland. Back dated..
You have 3 months to choose but you'll need to pay for these 3 months when you do choose.

So assuming you are legally registered etc, you will be covered by whichever insurance you eventually take.

You may need to pay now depending on where you go but it will be covered -- minus and deductible if you submit the bill later.

Edit - any hospital emergency room will see you, or drop in clinic etc..

Re: Emergency without insurance

Medix Toujours is open from early to late seven days a week, near SBB. Or if you want to register with a practice, I can recommend Centramed. For kids, though, you want a pediatrician really. We used this one.

However, with pus etc. I think you should take the sprog immediately to Medix Toujours. You don't want to risk sepsis. Or Notfall of Universitätspital or Bruderholz, depending where you're living. Take a credit card with you. Cost will likely be a few hundred francs. Which you'll get back from your insurer, even when you buy after the event. Children can only have up to a 300 franc per year deductable anyway. I can't remember if children have copay - that's be 10% for the next 7000 francs of costs for adults.

Keep your receipts!

Here’s a good starting point to compare insurance companies. https://en.comparis.ch/
