Travel / Cancellation Insurance - Are all good?

I'm planning to take an annual travel/cancellation insurance with the main aim of not losing money (flight/ Hotel) if we have to cancel our trip at the last minute (we have a young daughter who somehow decides to get sick one day before our holidays - happened twice in last two months )
I've gone through older threads and also tried to read reviews out of google and tbh can't find a clear winner/loser:

- UBS Travel Insurance Plus: Cheapest with 72.- if you have a credit card with them. Although insurance is provided by Europ Assistance, which had slighly shady reviews

- ERV - Friend had a great review and experience

- TCS ETI Travel Insurance - Also good reviews on internet and since all Swiss seem to be a member of TCS, my guess is that it should be trustworthy

- Zurich/Alliance/Other regular Insurance companies - In general ok reviews

Any recommendations/ warnings?

Re: Travel / Cancellation Insurance - Are all good?

I saw a comparison in one of the consumer magazines and TCS ETI was a few months ago the only insurance that would reimburse in case of CoVid cancellations (not only the illness but also if you need to cancel as suddenly your destination is on quarantine list or you are yourself or your family in quarantine). To me that is key nowadays so would check that.

Also they had no restrictions with regards to booking despite there being a travel warning - others may have this. So look at this too.

We used Europe Assistance a couple of years back through our credit cards for flights that were cancelled as one of us was sick.

The initial contact was dumb...they said I should have flown even though my wife was sick Clearly the person was single! Anyway, I used the time hallowed strategy of HUCA (Hang up and call again) and it was fine second time around.

Flights were re-imbursed with no trouble at all.

I got Allianz Travel insurance. They cover Covid related costs if you have to cancel or extend due to Covid infection - they won’t reimburse if you want to cancel due to destination going on quarantine list though! I’m making sure to book cancelable accommodation and airlines that allow free changes to destination and dates!
