question about

Hi- I was responsible for some in my flat (no insurance at the time - have it now). My landlord said the call the repair company and they called and fixed it. The landlord sent me to pay the entire bill and with the help of mietverband I was able to write a letter asking the age of the item and what percentage I would have to pay (registered mail). My landlord wrote back and said I had to pay 7 years of the 15 year life-span but offered no proof of the age of the item. I asked mietverband and they said before I paid, to get proof of age and since this is a large company they should have the records. So far two weeks have passed and the landlord has not answered emails about proving the age of the item. The bill is nearly due (30 days). Should I just pay it or ask again by registered mail to send me proof? I am thinking they don't have it. Portion I have been asked to pay is around 600chf.

Re: question about

I'd go the registered letter route, giving a date by which they must give you the info requested.

It could be whoever is dealing with it is on holiday, but a registered letter will get their attention in a way no e-mail ever can.

Re: question about

I think the mietverband is referring to the fact that if it is an electric appliance, the company selling it should have a record of when it was sold (via serial number).

It is certainly the case for fridges and ovens.

If you are able to provide the production year, only then the owner has to challenge it, and they must then provide the purchase date (do all via registered letter, as mentioned before).

Re: question about

Hi,
It was an item from outside on the balcony (sunshade). I find it odd that they did not furnish any proof and reduced the price by half. Because there are still some issues with other pieces of sunshade, I want proof of age in case they try to charge me for these later.

I was trying to not have to send a registered letter again and I was thinking they were on vacation but the payment date is now due and I am receiving no communication.

If they don't provide me with a date of installation - what would you do? I have a feeling it is older than 15 years.

thanks

Re: question about

Not sure the age is relevant, when you were negligent leaving the sun shade up during a snow storm https://www.englishforum.ch/housing-...collapsed.html
