Property insurance

Hi

I was wondering which insurances did you take for your property (owned)?
  1. Household items (Hausrat)
  2. Mandatory cantonal building insurance (GVZ Gebäudeversicherung Kanton Zürich) -
  3. Any other insurance for the building itself in addition to the mandatory cantonal insurance?
  4. Other?

The reason I ask is that my insurance agent tries to convince me of 3), saying the mandatory cantonal building insurance needs to be supplemented by earthquake coverage and coverage for water damage resulting within the house.

In particular regarding water damage, is it true that the mandatory cantonal building insurance only covers damage caused by water originating outside the house - forces of nature? That is damage by water leaks is not covered?

Re: Property insurance

Are you in a house or apartment? Our "building community" company organises our building insurance, it comes out of our nebenkosten. Other than that we have contents insurance.

Re: Property insurance

I had water damage caused by a faulty bathroom tap. It was covered by no.1.

Check your policy.

Yes.

Make sure you are covered for water damage for internal leaks too as these are pretty common - and the damage can be expensive to fix.

We've had both sorts of water damage in the last year!
