health insurance - traps and troubles

Hi,

I need advice about what to do .

Here is the story:

- moved in CH in July
- applied for Swica insurance (basic+supplementary).
- Swica supplementary insurance was rejected (without providing a reason) so I preferred to move with another insurer. They told me they would have ignored the documentation I signed.
- Requested quotation to Symphany, agreed and signed for application . A feedback was expected in 14 days.
- waited 30 calendar days without receiving any written feedback. My emails are ignored . The reference person for that company only provide reassurance at the phone that the confirmation will arrive soon.
- sent email to cancel my application : denied(at the phone) . They said I signed the application form so I just have to wait because - I am the priority queue- and I will receive the documentation soon.

I am supposed to be insured within 3 months since I arrived in CH but I got trapped by this insurer. Any idea about what I can do in this situation?
Is there any authority I can call to understand how to deal with the situation?

Supplementary insurance is not obligatory

No insurance company can deny you basic coverage, they all know this too well !

Also supplementary insurances dont have to be at the same company as the basic.

Re: health insurance - traps and troubles

the point is that I got stuck with Symphany, which lost credibility considering how they are dealing with my subscription.
Conclusion: I cannot sign with another insurance (apparently), as the quotation I signed is apparently binding . I though there was another stage after that where I would have to sign the contract but I am not sure anymore.

...

I am not sure what happens if they keep delaying my subscription. I am the only one who signed something.

Send them a registered letter requesting an answer within 7 days (and add a specific date) and tell them past that your application can be considered withdrawn.

FYI if you are over 40 it will be very hard to get supplementary insurance. Swica I have found to be specifically tricky.

You’ll love it when you get the backdated bill from the day you arrived here…

Good to know. In addition to that I had a small carcinoma of basal cells excision (skin excision) before relocating to CH and I suppose they didn't like it at all.

Sometimes I feel like if they knew I am going to die/suffer soon...despite I am not sick at all .

My target was to have more support for accidents in the mountains ......but now that I think about it, somebody told me once that those are considered accidents covered by my employer.

Get Rega. It's not insurance. It's a rescue service that will either come and rescue you, or help coordinate logistics to get you back to CH, even if you have an accident abroad. They bill your insurance(s), and whatever isn't covered they will often waive for their patrons (donors). The cost of being a patron for this amazing service is only 40 Fr per year for a single person.

I should mention that it's not guaranteed they'll wave the costs, for example if you do something stupid and dangerous/negligent. But for most cases, you'll be fine.

I signed up after reading posts here on EF. I had been a patron for a few years before needing them after having an accident abroad. They were absolutely brilliant getting me back to Switzerland, coordinating with insurance and hospital, etc. I recommend them to anyone and everyone.
