No, half the posts you moved related to retiring outside of Switzerland.

Exactly, this thread is about health insurance issues when leaving Switzerland, and then drawing a Swiss pension (or mixed), or leaving Switzerland and when you are liable to continue paying for Swiss health insurance.

It was slowly becoming impossible to navigate between the more Brexit related posts (i.e. leaving the EU and how to pay non-EU health insurance costs vs. free NHS), and others related more to the UK than Switzerland i.e. moving to Switzerland from the UK and all the UK related laws. Brexit is England, not Switzerland so it makes sense to accommodate all posters according to area. Is there a Local for the UK?

Thanks mods.

What would be a really interesting thread would be something like „I moved to Switzerland and then Brexit happened
Anyone up to the task?

I have taken the liberty of moving the posts related to retiring outside Switzerland back to this thread and a post related to moving to Switzerland to retire into the other thread.
I hope this is ok.
As I understand it this thread is about people leaving Switzerland on retirement and the other thread is about people who are moving to Switzerland when retired.

Of course. Just bumbling along, doing my best at a job I don't want.

Well, the other thread is about people who have already retired as well.

Re: Leaving Switzerland - Health Insurance issues

It's sort of silly re the UK since the UK has no official retirement age. Hubby reaches retirement here in Switzerland in March, but has at least another year to go before he can get his UK State pension. So is he retired or not? If he keeps working even after he gets his UK State pension presumably he'd be paying National Insurance as usual.

And I assume if we do have to keep paying Swiss health insurance it'll need to have the accident cover as well so that'll push the cost up a bit.

Re: Leaving Switzerland - Health Insurance issues

Of course there is an official retirement age when you are allowed to draw your UK State PensionYou can retire earlier if you wish and can afford it. It used to be 65, and now it is being changed

For those born after 5 April 1960, there will be a phased increase in State Pension age to 67, and eventually 68.

Re: Leaving Switzerland - Health Insurance issues

Answering a question in another thread and came across this after googling.

"Returning to the UK to settle
UK citizens who return to the UK on a settled basis will be considered as ordinarily resident and will be eligible for free NHS care immediately.

See more information for people visiting or moving to England on the NHS Choices website."

https://www.gov.uk/government/public...-hospital-care

Then I found this, but it makes it sound as if it applies only if you have the one pension from Switzerland and not both countries.

https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/visi...r-switzerland/

And then there's this:

"Entitlement to relevant services without charge is principally based on being 'ordinarily resident' in the UK. An overseas visitor is any person who is not ordinarily resident in the UK. A person will only be ordinarily resident in the UK when that residence is lawful, adopted voluntarily, and for a settled[footnote 1] purpose as part of the regular order of their life for the time being, whether of short or long duration. A person who is considered ordinarily resident [footnote 2] in the UK must not be charged for relevant services."

British citizens and their family members
"British citizens" have an automatic right of abode in the UK. A British citizen who has been living abroad, or who is migrating to the UK for the first time, can therefore pass the ordinary residence test upon taking up settled residence in the UK. British citizens who are no longer living and settled in the UK cannot be said to be ordinarily resident in the UK.

Re: Leaving Switzerland - Health Insurance issues

Well, finally got my letter from SWICA to say my Swiss Health Insurance is terminated.
I applied for NI Credits in UK (using Form JSA NC1) at the Employment Office and if I agreed that I was fit, able and willing I would be eligible for the credits.
I submitted the letter to SWICA and all sorted.
You also need KVG on your side, who agreed that I just needed to provide proof.
