The twice as much comes with a fine print:

https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home...r-Schweiz.html

Still CHF 3000 × 0.9 - CHF 1800 = CHF 900 should be reimbursed.

Issue might be that you got a treatment before you have informed the insurance.

Whilst its true that you should ideally seek permission for all treatment with the insurer beforehand, this clearly isnt reasonable in the case of a kidney stone (or a ruptured appendix, a car accident...), and I don't think any judge would uphold this.

I agree and infact I do not think I have seen this in the GTC of the insurances here? Is it really a prerequisite to inform before using the insurance? I have never done so, perhaps the hospital did themselves.

Maybe not inform before using the services if it's an emergency, but certainly inform as soon as possible after? My insurance has a clause along those lines.

I will check mine. I know when I was insured via Cigna we had that but I do not remember seeing it for the Swiss insurance.
