Car Insurance For Mercedes E 200

I have been looking around for fully comprehensive insurance quotes for the Mercedes E200 I am planning to buy.

I used Comparis and the cheapest I could get is CHF 2166 pa with no excesses from Zuritel. It sounds like a lot to me, especially when I had 5 years no claims in the UK and I have a garage here in Switzerland. Now I have the following questions.
  1. Is a premium of CHF 2166 pa reasonable for the car in question plus my 5 year no claim discount.
  2. Are there other insurers that I should speak to, if yes, who are they?
  3. Is there anyway I can transfer my non claims from the UK

I'd say that sounds about right - also, fuel guzzling heavy cars will also be very expensive in terms of traffic tax.
Zuritel btw. doesn't have a very good reputation.

Re: Car Insurance For Mercedes E 200

of course you can transfer no-claims from the UK; I did.

2000 or so for most [mid-premium] cars fully-comp is fairly normal.

Re: Car Insurance For Mercedes E 200

Many thanks to you both for your help...some more questions
  1. What is the problem with Zuritel? Who else would you recommend?
  2. Is there an equivalent of RAC here?
  3. How should I go about transferring my no claims discount?

Re: Car Insurance For Mercedes E 200

1. No problem with ZuriTel; they're underwritten by Zurich Insurance
2. TCS - www.tcs.ch - but do ask about travel insurance as I have roadside assistance in my travel insurance
3. Get a letter from your UK insurer.

1. Züritel is Zurich's (the insurance company, not the city) discount daughter company. A colleague of mine used to have his car insured with them - he canceled the contract after a small claim caused him to lose his whole bonus. They have cheap rates but if you have an accident you'll probably end up paying much more than you would with another company.

2. There's TCS and ACS (www.tcs.ch, www.acs.ch)

I didn't think Private_Bankers worried about a few CHF's for insurance !!
and that they all drove Porshe's or Masserati's with a X5 to get the groceries

Problem is that I am one tight private banker keen on counting my pennies...I like standing out from the usual crowd

So why a Merc E200? Very individual.
In silver, perchance?

Re: Car Insurance For Mercedes E 200

That is the whole point...I didn't want to be a part of the private banker crowd that goes for Porsches or Masarettis or even Mercedes E 320 4matics...I wanted to stand out and that was why the lowly E 200...while they all drive fast in their powerful cars, I will crawl with my 2 ltr engine happily pinching my pennies!!

In terms of the colour, as usual I wanted something that stands out, something like yellow...but the wife picked a shiny black merc...what can I do?

Re: Car Insurance For Mercedes E 200

isn't that the point ? that we expect to see a flash guy who at least looks successful if we pay a whole bunch of fee's - last thing I would want is a loser as an advisor - maybe that's why the 'Trackers' beat most Investment Managers in the league tables every year; didn't Virgin claim that 70% underperformed the Index?

Re: Car Insurance For Mercedes E 200

I didn't realise there is a connection between flashy bankers and investment performance...I am sure my clients would rather prefer their money multiplied than see me in a nice Saville row suit.

Yes, I agree that indices have outperformed managed funds...but then that is where my skill comes into play...I choose the best for my clients and most of them have earned over 10% in 2006

What about CHF 1966 pa ? It could be possible, I am pretty sure! Have a nice evening!

ummmm didn't the market increase by 13% ? so you were one of the 70% who underperformed the index

Re: Car Insurance For Mercedes E 200

If you track the market, you will lose money when the market goes down...these are the times when having an investment manager makes (or at least should make) a difference.

Have you had some bad experience in past like an IFA overcharging you for rubbish investment advice or do you not like bankers in general
