Accident Insurance - covered by employer?

Hello,

Hypothetically - if I am to have an accident where I am injured outside of work, and then need to go to hospital in an ambulance, am I covered by my employers insurance?

On my pay slip I only have the following:

AHV contribution - 5.05%
ALV contribution - 1.00%

I am pretty sure that in previous jobs in CH I have had more deductions, one of them being relevant to accident insurance.

Re: Accident Insurance

Obviously your employer pays the premiums for NBU, "Nicht-Betriebs-Unfall", accidents that happen outside of work. Otherwise, there would be a deduction for NBU on your pay slip. However, make sure a premium is paid and you're insured. Ask your employer/HR.

Yes, you are covered by your employer's Nichtberufsunfallversicherung (NBU) if you work at least eight hours a week. If you work less than eight hours a week, you are only covered at work and on your travel from/to work.

As rpf suggested, it is recommendable to check with your employer if you are actually insured. In general, your employer should provide you with an insurance card and further information on your coverage.

Re: Accident Insurance

I have had three jobs here and NBU has only turned up on the pay slips of one of those jobs. I am assuming that that company passed on the cost to me, while the other two companies paid the NBU themselves.

How normal is it that ones company pays NBU compared to passing it on to the employer???

At around 3% of salary its not really a small amount each month.....

… however, 3% is an unusually high deduction. Are you sure the mentioned 3% are for NBU only?

Anyway, you always pay yourself for your NBU no matter whether it is listed on your pay slip.

Hi Carcharhinus,

Pay slips from both the company and from the unemployment insurance when i was unemployed both around 2.9% deduction.

How can I pay for NBU if it isnt listed on my pay slip?
