IVF treatments and health insurance

Has anybody got any idea how IVF treatments in CH are covered/paid for in relation to health insurance?

Re: IVF tretments and health insurance

Would they fall under supplementary insurance?

From experience,
if you can get tested and approved from your doctor, you can get supplimental coverage for this. But all other areas MUST be exhausted before this is covered. (partially only)

I know it's going to sound irritating, but what do you mean by "all other areas MUST be exausted"? I've just moved to CH and will have to have IVF treatment here, and ,as I still haven't chosen the HI company I'd like to know how to choose one in regards to the treatment I need?

No irritation taken.
In known cases, you must be examined by a professional(s), go through all the appropriate personal tests within Switzerland (and your partner) and have meetings to ensure that the only way for you to become pregnant is by IVF. But still, not all HI will accept this so you must find this out first and who will allow partial coverage. Normally, most places will make it so hard for you to prove, it is not worth the foot work.
Good luck.

Re: IVF treatments and health insurance

Good Morning Everyone,

This Is My First Post To This Forum.

We Are In The Process Of Buying A Home In Locarno And Intend To Move There Permanently In The Next 12 Months Or So.

Does Anyone Have Experience Or Know Anyone Who Has Had Experience With Ivf Treatment In Ch?

Is It Better Than In The Uk And How Does The Cost Compare?

Also I Noticed A Thread About Insurance Cover! Is It Possible To Get You Health Insurance To Cover The Cost?

Any Help Will Be Very Much Appreciated.

What I know for sure is that egg donor program is not done in Switzerland or any other German speaking countries. What's more is that only UK and Spain have this treatment in Europe. I've been told that you can get 3 free cycles of IVF with your HI, after that you pay.

Re: IVF treatments and health insurance

Sakal

Unless the regs. have changed since I went throught the whole IVF experience- insurance will cover 3 IUIs but not IVF - Luckily, the price for the treatment is less than many other countries and its seems that insurances are offering some complimentary coverage options to help ease the burden. This was not the case 4+ years ago when I was starting out. Another thing to consider here is the regulations governing the process are much more strict than in other countries which many consider an impediment to success. Doctors are allowed to transfer a max. of 3 fertlized eggs. Normally they transfer 2 and you have to argue like the crazy the 3 -usually only considered if you are over 35 and with multiple cycle failures. The embryos must be transferred on day 3 as well. Although people do have success here (myself included)Many people choose to go to Belgium for treatment.

I Hope that this helps. I would be curious to know if you are going through the treatment here. If yes, would you will be willing to write a short article/essay about the experience for publication in a local, English magazine?
