Everything about Basic health insurance in a PDF

Dear all,

I found this very usefull guide/FAQs issued by the Federal Office of Public Health(FOPH). It covers almost everything you need to know about the basic health insurance in Switzerland, what it covers and what not, how to know if a certain medicine is covered or not and alot of other useful info.

I thought to share the info with everyone.

P.S: I searched in the forum if this guide was existing and couldn't find it, apologies if its lying some where.

Cheers

Re: Everything about Basic health insurance in a PDF

Thanks for the PDF, has a lot of info. Still, I have this question: I am applying for Swisscare, and the first thing they did after I entered my data online, was send me a "certificate of the foreigner insurer required for exemtion from compulsory insurance in switzerland"...

(yes, I just arrived)

I donīt understand why would I fill a form for "exemption from insurance" if it is exactly that what I am asking for!!

There are some explanations on the form itself, but the english they've used seems just a googletranslator-copy-paste thing, quite hard to understand...

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I know I am replying you 2 months later! and am not sure if you going to benefit from this, but I thought it would be a good idea to post an answer anyway, maybe someone can make use of it in the future.

Swisscare, is a "special" company that offers health insurance for students/researchers for reduced premiums. As far as I know, what happens is that you get exempted from the obligatory health insurance because you are a student, yet you are still insured. You got the correct form, the expemtion form. You should fill it in, send it together with a proof of your student/researcher status and they will contact the authorities.

Thanks for your answer. Anyway I already did as they told me to (i.e. with the exemption form) and everything seems ok (actually I haven't had the need of the services yet so who knows!).

I guess that, just like other things here, it was a strange procedure but it worked.

Good! Note that the authorities should eventually send you a letter stating that you are expemted from the compulsory health insurance until a certain date (they will mention it), as soon as you have this letter, you should be safe.

Good luck!
